Garden Design
We'll be delighted to create a garden for you that is exploding with colour and movement in the growing season and still provides interest even in a drab winter. We can source the unusual, try the experimental and bold, or stay traditional.
Mediterranean, cottage, forest garden, bog and water garden, wild or formal.
From planting plans and pencil sketches to fully annotated working drawings we can design to your specification and budget. See The Design Process below. We have available a library of books and gardening magazines and member access to the RHS information services. We also keep trade catalogues and may be able to provide samples of project materials along with photos of gardens and structures.
Design work is charged by the hour or quoted.
Growing Food
You don't need much skill, space or even ordered rows to grow a bewildering variety of vegetables. Put food crops in your flower beds and flowers in your kitchen garden. Reduce pest damage and encourage beneficial predators with companion planting, grow potatoes in compost bags, set up a traditional crop rotation system. We can help with all this and more.
Bringing in wildlife
It should come as no surprise that many of the plants that we like for their colour and fragrance and fruit are also beloved of wildlife, including helpful predators. Let us design into your space a range of habitats, feeding stations, roosts and nesting resources, composting etc to encourage those that we so often exclude.
Landscaping
We offer quality workmanship in timber, brick and stone. Choice is not restricted to just the standard specification deck boards, paving slabs, new bricks, amenity turf and so forth. We can source the local and unusual, new or reclaimed, naturally resistant hard and softwood over treated timbers, specific grass mixes for awkward spaces or wildflower meadow mixes.
Structures and furniture
We can make by hand or supply and fit the furniture and features that will complete your space. Say a bespoke shed with a green roof. Tree houses and play structures for the kids and the parents. Living willow and coppiced hazel arbors, trellis, tunnels, raised beds. Standard and unusual fences, benches, pergolas et al.
Garden Maintenance and tree works
From bedding plants to large trees, lawn care to stump removal, we can care for your garden or provide you with a maintenance schedule to guide you in doing it yourself. During a short visit we can discuss and cost your garden's maintenance and can organise removal of your waste. Short first visits and estimates are FREE.
Scythesman for hire
Where the mower won't go the scythe (and strimmer) will, making hay while the sun shines! It's also a little safer to scythe where there is a resident population of slow worms.
